Plasmodium vivax - thick film with schizont which has 14 - 24 merozoites - characteristic of P.vivax (schizont has 14-24 merozoites cf. 6-12 for P.malariae, 8-32 for P.falciparum - rarely seen in the peripheral blood but smaller merozoites and black not yellow brown pigment and 6-12 for P.ovale). Final diagnosis should be based on the examination of the thin films.
